Revitalizing NetApp Monitoring in VMware Aria Operations: A Custom Management Pack
With VMware announcing the end-of-life (EOF) for several Management Packs, including the one for NetApp, many users have been left without a solution to monitor their NetApp ONTAP environments in VMware Aria Operations. As someone who spent over a decade at VMware and specializes in Aria Operations, I couldn’t let this gap remain unaddressed.
This is why I developed a custom Management Pack for NetApp ONTAP, licensed under GPL and publicly available on GitHub. It brings back essential visibility into NetApp ONTAP environments and includes five pre-built dashboards to kickstart your monitoring:
NetApp ONTAP Overview, ONTAP Cluster, ONTAP LUN, ONTAP Overview ONTAP World, ONTAP Volume
This is the first version of the Management Pack, and I plan to update it with more features and metrics in the future. While it’s free and open-source, keep in mind that it’s offered as-is, with no support — use it at your own discretion.
How to Download and Install the NetApp ONTAP Management Pack
Follow these simple steps to bring the custom Management Pack into your VMware Aria Operations environment:
1. Download the Management Pack
The Management Pack is available on GitHub. Click the link below to download the .pak file:

2. Install and configure the Management Pack in Aria Operations
Log in to VMware Aria Operations and follow the instructions below:
Now upload the file and follow the steps of the wizard. If you want more details, please access the official documentation.
And we need to connect to NetApp ONTAP system:
Wait some minutes and check the Dashboards.

Verify Dashboards and Metrics:
Once the adapter is connected, navigate to the Dashboards section.
You’ll see the five pre-configured dashboards:
ONTAP CLUSTER: High-level view of cluster health and performance.
ONTAP LUN: Insights into Logical Unit Number (LUN) performance.
ONTAP Overview: Summary metrics across your ONTAP system.
ONTAP World: A comprehensive global view.
ONTAP VOLUME: Key volume metrics and analytics.
